Dundee Parish Church (St. Mary’s) is holding an Arts and Crafts Exhibition and Sale in the Church from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 19th October, 2024 from 10.00 until 16.30 each day. Exhibitors will include members of Scumblers Art Group and, hopefully, budding Artists from other Churches and the community. It is also planned to have a few craft stalls – jam, jewellery etc.
Artwork etc. may be for sale or for exhibition only depending upon the wishes of individual contributors but it is planned that a contribution from sale proceeds will be made to CHAS which the Church has supported in the past.
Entry will be free but if visitors would like to make a contribution in support of CHAS, that would be most welcome.
If you would like to participate or would like more details please contact George Cowieson on 07983 099 632 or by e-mail to georgecowieson@hotmail.com.
Further details will be provided here in due course or in the press.

We are pleased to announce that the Church is now open for visitors and will continue to be open during the summer months of June, July and August from 10.00 a.m. until 12.00 noon on every Tuesday and Thursday. Church members will be on duty to provide information and to answer any questions about our historic Church, the detailed history of which can, of course, also be viewed elsewhere on our website.
The Discovery Bach Cantata Project performed Zelenska's 'Miserere' in C minor and Bach's 'Es wartet alles auf dich' ( (BWV 187) on Saturday 20th May 2013, directed by Lionel Steuart Fothringham. Soloists were Sonia Moniz, Amanda Ferguson, Jennifer Wilson and Kenneth Murray.
Following a hugely successful Art Exhibition in the Church in October, a donation of £1,347.00 has
been made to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). Our picture shows Pat and George
Cowieson, who were responsible for organising the event, accompanied by Rev. Keith Hall making
the cheque presentation to Alison Rennie of CHAS.
St Mary's has been delighted to welcome recent visiting performers, including NYCoS Tayside, Dundee Choral Union, East Fife Male Voice Choir and The Edinburgh Quartet.
Groups interested in
using St Mary's as a performance venue will be made welcome.
A native of Suffolk, brought up within the Congregational Church, Robert's appointment to St Mary's brings him experience of a seventh denomination as an organist. Studies at the Royal School of Church Music and Lincoln College, Oxford led to a teaching career at three schools - St Paul's Boys, Radley College and Glenalmond College (where he was also a boarding housemaster and held wider academic responsibilities).
His main musical interest has centred on the English 20th century musical renaissance, chairing both the Percy Whitlock and Gerald Finzi charitable trusts. Formerly an examiner for the Associated Board and the Royal College of Organists, Robert has published extensively, with work for Oxford University Press, Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Gehrmans and Banks Music Publications.
Original tunes feature in Ancient & Modern hymn books, whilst he has also edited individual school collections. Robert's editorial pen remains active, with a second book of Christmas Organ Music due to be released by OUP in 2023.
The Wednesday Club welcomes you to its meetings held from September to March, usually on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the church hall.
The club is a social group which started over 40 years ago for the 25 to 50 age group, and has 'matured' with the members. The first meeting of the season is often a 'Cheese and Wine Evening ' at the home of the president. Other meetings may take the form of an illustrated talk on a topic of local or worldwide interest, followed by refreshments and chat; or perhaps musical entertainment with a buffet meal provided by the members. A summer outing takes place in May or June.
Those of us who came in previous years thoroughly enjoyed the informal chats we had with lots of humour and information. We sit so that we can all see and hear each other. There are tea and coffee and biscuits available. We only ask for a donation to cover the cost. We meet in the Church Lounge (so no steps), on the second Tuesday morning of each month between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
